I've been picking away with assembling the car since i got it back from paint. Yesterday i decided to start it up as it hadn't run in about 4 months and i just wanted to hear it purr. So, installed the battery, turned the key and it cranked but wouldn't fire!! Last thing i wanted to do was spend time chasing a new problem when i have a mountain of work already with body and interior assembly. Luckily, i notice something when i tried to crank it, a clicking behind the centre of the dash. Tried several times and then the light bulb in my head went off - alarm problem! The original alarm horn was eliminated when i rebuilt the front end last winter but the rest was still in place i expected. I did some research last night to refresh my mind on this issue and found the thread about installing 2 jumpers. I guess the body shop guys messed up the wiring when they pulled the doors off and put them back one. This eventing I tore the ventilation system out and found the module (well hidden!!). A quick attempt to start the car confirmed this was indeed the source of the clicking. Ii made two jumpers and installed them and sure enough it came alive!! What a sweet sound the air cooled engine is when you overcome a problem like this. Now I'm drinking beer and feeling pretty good. I also installed the fuel filler neck, rubber boot/grommet, keeper wire ring (PITA), and associated items. All in all a great night!
