The "hand tight" deal is because there is nothing for the studs to tighten (clamp) against except the bosses/threads . . . applies to installing any kind or size of stud - you just run them down to the appropriate depth - turning them farther, or tighter, just risks damaging the threads and/or deforming the bosses as the stud bottoms out (something that is a non-issue for Paul!!!).
