Since I live on a corner I have a street light next to my drive way.
Also have a security light in the back yard.
So don't really need to have garage lights on. Front Porch is a little dark though.
The security light in the back yard was there when we moved in.
Turned it off for about a month, now neighbor to north pays half for me to keep it on.
Brother's SILs and the house south of them both have the security light shaded so does not light their yards.
They claim the light keeps them awake a night.
The lady on the west side had me have it shaded your her yard for the same reason, but within a month gave me enough to pay for the light for a year to turn it back on.
There is a gate from my back yard into my Brother's SIL's back yard. Their houses are in a gated community. It is right next to the back yard security light. Before they had the light shaded it lit between the two houses so you could go from my back do to my brothers front door at night without any additional lights. With it shaded I use my iPhone as a flashlight if I make the trek at night.
Mom used to like to open the gate to look thru to see if my brother was home. If he was home during the day he usually left his garage door cracked open about a foot. One day the wind grabbed he gate and pulled her over. My brother started locking the gate on his side to keep her from "Wandering around and getting lost." She thought he didn't like her checking up on him. Pretty out of touch for living so close.
