I elected to not do a PPI on this car. I expect it to need a few items that the PPI money will go to. I have a thread over in the 996 forum looking for suggestions on how to attack this car.
My thoughts are to do an oil change with a complete evaluation of the oil, followed by a new AOS (though there is not am extreme amount of vacuum at the oil filler at this time) and then some "while you are in there items" that may come up, I plan on using the IMS Guardian rather than a replacement bearing, as it seems that the 99's with the dual row bearing may have a better life expectancy than the later single row. The oil evaluation will tell me what direction to go in this regard. I hope to end up with no more than another $2,500-$4,000 in bringing the car to the point where I know the condition of all major components and then drive the crap out of it for a few years.
