Self-repairing 944... I don't know how, I don't know why
When I got the car, basically everything electric inside it didn't work. After a year I had everything doing as it should, with one exception. The air con was totally dead. No sign of life was evident in any part of it, to the extent that I was seriously considering removing the entire thing to save some weight and give the passenger some extra leg-room.
Then last week as I was head-first under the dash trying to clean some earths (I had been in Europe for 6 weeks, the cover had blown off the car, it had poured with rain, most of which seems to have take up residence in the passenger side floor) I happened to bump the aircon fan knob and bugger me if it didn't burst into life! Not only does the fan now work, the compressor seems to be cutting in and out on demand and while it looks like it needs re-gassing, it does seem to be 100% alive again. Of course, being the middle of winter, aircon is of no use to me at all, so I can just hope that whatever it was that made it work again will continue this when summer gets here...
