2008 3.8 is the last of the breed of M96/97 motors which changed in 2009 to the 9A1 series motor, which is far superior... The 997.1 (up to 2008) and 997.2 (2009 onwards) are pretty similar besides the motor and option of PDK vs Tiptronic.
