At the level of modification that you've done, why go with a p-car filter at all?
I switched over to some speed-shop type filters, AN fittings both sides. Cleanable, rebuildable, smaller, cheaper...I ran 2 in series, a 100 micron then a 10 micron.
Something like this:

but there is literally hundreds of sizes, diameters, lengths, colors and particle sizes to choose from.
Super easy compared to going AN fitting to metric fitting back to AN fitting.
