Backdates, race cars and other valve questions

Back in 2012 I started looking to build another rally car as I had been on a couple year hiatus. I decided that I wanted to build something fun and use the car at limited gravel and tarmac events. So in 2013, I ended up buying a '81 SC to prep for rally America Group 2 rally. I've built other high level cars in the past and planned to do the same with this. Then, life got busy and an engine build took way longer then I wanted to. Now the bare chassis is getting rust treatment and I'm at the point to decided if I want to build the car into a proper historic rally car (Not a safari themed homage) but a actual competition car, or keep her on the street. If the car stays on the street, it could be built in one of 3 ways. And yes, it's staying brown!

1. Stock-ish, full nut and bolt resto
2. Stock with SCRS bumpers
3. R style backdate

I'm still leaning toward a limited rally build where I do one or two of my local events and track events here and there. I should note, that I also have a '87 Carrera

So, Are very well prepped race cars still desirable in the Porsche world?
