^this^ suggestion is not bad. Get out and look around at Emerald Bay. There is a little trail that goes up the hill from there that is not bad.
Have you ever seen Lake Tahoe? You could take 395 up to 207(Kingsbury Grade) and drive around the North end of the lake. How much time do you want to take driving?
Don't take 99, unless you like looking at trucks.
