Ouch.
That is part of why I do my own work. Of course I have a ton of money invested in tools, a lift, heat and AC in the garage and all the rest of the stuff needed to do my work. It has taken me 40 year to collect my tools. More than a few times I have been at a point to ask myself "Why the fcuk am I doing this"
In the end, as a hobby that is way cheaper than golf, boats and fishing, airplanes and a ton of other activities I could be doing. Much like mowing the yard I get instant gratification and a sense of pride to look at the finished project.
I really enjoyed the learning experience of doing the 911 AC upgrade. The end results were fantastic. Even more so then the complete rebuild of the suspension on the 911.
If I was a professional mechanic I would have to charge 5 times the going rate to make any money. I am super slow. Mostly because I always find some other little item that needs attention, and that leads to something else.
Owning high mileage cars from the mid 1980s is one reason I am never bored at home.
