I haven't been on the Autobahn in a few years but unless something has changed, the video left out an important point. It suggests that the Autobhan"s lower accident rate is due to German drivers being smart enough to stay in the right lane when traveling slower than the flow of traffic. I'd suggest, on the other hand, that it has far more to do with the strictly enforced "No passing on the right" laws, which compels law abiding drivers to simply keep their place in line until the offending slowpoke moves over ... if ever. This cuts down on speed-varying lane changes which, as the video cites, are the primary reason for crashes.
So it appears that left-lane patience (something I frequently don't display as much as I probably could/should), more than anything else, is what the Germans have determined is most important in terms of preventing crashes.
