Hypothetically, of course. Someone you know knows someone who might have done that...
If I were in your shoes I'd do a full oil change right now. Don't know how those additives might react in the engine. At the end of the day, motor oil was designed to lubricate engines and gear oil for gears. Using gear oil in an engine is only going to be worse. Diluting it probably means no lasting damage but I'd rather change it to make sure.
