One of the best things that could come from the discovery of intelligent life on another world would be debunking the silly mysticism of religion here on this one. In particular it would be wonderful to see the teachings that humans have some sort of "divine birthright" to rape our planet, do what we wish with it and treat everything on it as a "resource" to be exploited (own personal chattel) completely turned on their heads.

Humanity could benefit from a good dressing-down from a species more intelligent than we are (since we are too stupid to listen to the intellectuals and the bright people from our own species, choosing instead to listen to celebrities, reality TV stars, self-serving lawyers, loud mouthed preachers and greedy entrepreneurs instead of scientists, philosophers and intellectuals).

It could be the best thing that ever happened to us. Who knows - maybe it will happen someday - it would certainly be nice.
