Sorry, should have clarified: I've had that knob on my last two G50 (1987+) cars. It's a bit taller than the stock G50 knob, I can get my whole hand around it, and it makes for a very positive feel. I don't know why it wouldn't work on a short-shift kit 915 though.
AFAIK, the short shift lever is no "shorter" than the stock one. It just has a higher fulcrum to shorten the lever "throw".
To add:
Shift knob selection seems to really depends on your ergonomic preferences. Personally, I like a shift knob that puts my hand in a vertical (hand shake) position. Others prefer a horizontal hand position. I would think that if you prefer the latter, you would be more suited to the round-style knobs, as opposed to the stick-style knobs. Just an observation.
