I don't think he's saying the son staged them.
We used to do the voluntary defensive driving courses for the premium discount.
One particular course the instructor said he was going to play a video.
We were to count the number of potential hazards.
Average number counted by the class was 5 or so.
I counted 19.
There were 20 in the video.
My basic philosophy is nearly every accident is avoidable, even the rear ends can be avoided. Not all the time but you can increase your odds of avoiding one by paying attention.
I've got the red light ticket from one that I escaped. The ticket was cheap compared to the alternative. Had my kids in the back at the time.
