Having spent years riding motorcycles and representing injured drivers, most of which stem from being hit in the rear, I too am always extremely cautious about watching behind and leaving an out etc.
For most drivers, whether they are as cautious as us or not, are simply not going to be able to avoid being the victim of a hit in rear collision when that time comes.
Even if you slam on the breaks and someone hits you from behind, the person that hits you is likely the last person who could have avoided that accident if they had left a safe distance between
