I agree. It originates at the GSA and I work in a government building. Unfortunately, most in DC are going this way. Most of the folks I work with (my customers) have nice offices, conference rooms, etc...so I have to go to them to meet. If they come to me, we have to got to an old cafeteria. It is pretty embarrassing and certainly not efficient. Especially when you have to discuss issues that require some degree of privacy.
Most new remodeling eliminates offices altogether and only provide enough "touch down" spots (chair and a small portion of a table space) for about 25-30 percent of employees...assuming that on any given day, that is all that will be in the office due to meetings, telework, etc. There is no privacy and you cannot think due to folks on both sides of you talking to each other and on the phone. Anything you need to do your work has to be carried in and out with you.
