I'd think that failure of any of the camshaft's rollers would definitely lead to damage to the valves. This was the case when my idler locked-up & disintegrated last year.
If I were you, I'd take the head off and check the valves for proper seating. If you're lucky, you may only have a bent stem or two. My two cents.
