I was as well (8 instead of 12), although I asked too many questions to qualify as an Alter Boy. Sister Peter Ellen was convinced I was not the right kid for the job. I, and no doubt the Parish, appreciated her insight.
Listen, folks, the only time you'll know if you are afraid of dying is when you are, in fact, dying. I have seen it go many ways, unexpected.
Both my children were Alter Servers, BTW...no such thing as an Alter Boy these days.
