Before ripping anything else apart, I would check the oil breather line and thermostat (triangle of death) on top of the engine. Any leak up on top (and leaks there are likely to be present) will allow oil to run down between the cylinders and to the lowest point on the engine; the bottom of the cam towers/covers.
