I was about 23 before I ever borrowed one of my parents cars. I had just over 50,000 miles on my 914 and the bearing in the transmission started making bad noises. I pulled the transmission out and borrowed dad's car to drive the transmission to Birmingham.to a mechanic to rebuild the 901 transmission. He got it apart and said the bearing had a manufacturing defect and he had never seen one go bad so soon on a 95 HP car. It was not uncommon on a Porsche with higher HP for that bearing to go bad.
