I think they still are the good guys. We need to keep things in perspective.
The Washington Post, hardly a conservative shill for cops, has begun an extensive review of cop shootings, and I think their #'s are skewed high a bit, but here goes:
As of 9/20/16:
- there have been 697 fatal shooting by police
They also claim for 2015:
- there were 990 fatal cop involved shootings
- in 782 of those instances the victim was in possession of a deadly weapon (79%)
- 258 of the victims were black (26.1%)
- 172 of the victims were hispanic (17.4%)
- 948 were male (95.75%)
When the WaPo is willing to say that nearly 80% were in possession of a deadly weapon, I tend to believe what we are seeing and hearing in the broadcast media are the exceptions - not the rule.
Again, I still think they're the good guys. I give them the benefit of the doubt.
Are there any bad apples - of course, but again they're the exception, not the rule.
I'll end with this: if you only got your news in print, assuming the stats shown above are accurate, would this rise to the level it's at today absent the politically motivated race-baiters?
My $.02 anyways.
