It's not my idea, but rather John's (beamonk on the list). If you take his basic idea of bending a strip of aluminum lengthwise at a 90 degree angle you could attach it to the inside of the bumper lip. John had his piece extending down and bolted on, but if you were to epoxy the aluminum in and extend it upwards you could eliminate any screws/bolts being visible. The material being used is conveyor belt material that can be cut to any size. In the pictures below, you will see the lip frayed, but there are other belt types out there that will not do this.
