You have to put them in ass first.
Head first is always a no go.
Place carrier with opening facing up.
Wrap cat in towel like mummy.
Drop in.
I moved 4 cats from NY to TX.
Used the Mastiffs old dog crate.
Took up most of the space in the back of the Tahoe but there was room for all of them plus food / water bowls plus a litter box.
For the 2 nights we had to stay over in hotels it was simple. Slide crate with cats in it out of the truck, carry to the room.

The only issue with that is most airlines have a limit of two animals per flight. If someone else is bringing an animal on board you have a problem.
