They do eventually get over it...
When I moved cross country my two cats (I had two then, a third came along later) rode with me the entire way in a moving truck. Noisy, loud, etc. also an accident mid-way. I thought they'd hate me for life. As soon as I got where I was going they popped out and started exploring like nothing had ever happened. Maybe I'm just lucky. As soon as they figured out that I still was the keeper of their food, water and litter box it was all good.
My upcoming move is going to be a lot longer but I'm just going to take them on a plane with me this time. The part that sucks is there's a mandatory quarantine period in HI (they're rabies free and take keeping it that way quite seriously). I should be able to get it down to five days and visit until they're released but it'll still be hard on them. None of us are as young as we once were...
