Is your hood stuck and you cannot release it in order to replace the hood release? The footwell liner can be removed in order to gain access to it to pop it open.

That should help you with the removal in order to gain access to the hood latch. Also, I have seen some individuals report that they were able to get the latch to release by having someone push down quickly on the hood while you pull the latch.
