Just my opinion, but I think evacuating makes things worse most of the time.
Except for a power outage or your roof blowing off seems like you are much better off at home during a storm.
The power outage problem is solved with a generator. Or you could evacuate "after' the storm and return when they get the power back on.
If your roof flies off you're pretty much screwed no matter if you stay or leave. But how many roofs fly off (except that one time when Andrew hit S. FL...)
Those shelters place you in with a bunch of other refugees...you have no control over who you have to "mingle" with.
Most don't let you bring pets.
You have to fill out a bunch of paper work with personal info that goes who knows where afterwards....
Usually they don't allow alcoholic drinks or ammo...what fun is that?
