Spent a lot of years living in begger craphole central just north of Hollywood blvd. the was a homeless guy with a broom who would meticulously sweep the sidewalk near ivar.
He never asked for money. But people would just shower him with cash. Everyone was just so in awe of a bum actually doing something to make the city nicer. Within a few hours he usually had enough for food and a bag of weed. It was the life he wanted.

Eventually he disappeared. Died or just moved, who knows. But what struck me is that none of the hundred other regular bums picked up the broom and took over the very lucrative job. Even two hours a day was too much for them.
