I believe that Acadian (and Beaumont, which IIRC was first an Acadian model and then its own 'brand' - the later ones were like a slightly Pontiac-y Chevelle) were created because of the distribution model in Canada - there were Chevy dealers, and BOP dealers (basically, budget on the one hand and higher-line on the other). The high-line dealers didn't have a low-budget model to help with volume, and the combination of large size and sparse population make it relatively harder to make money without a budget line. Not sure what changed that led to the brand(s) being discontinued, which was around the end of the 60s, I think.
