Had the same issue with my headlights when I first got my 944. After hours and days checking and troubleshooting I found a wire right behind the headlight assembly that had the insulation worn off and was grounding out against the back of the headlight frame. Where the headlight harness flexes all the time when the headlights go up and down, the wires were rubbing against each other and against the headlight frame. Check there on both sides, easy to get to and you don't have to take anything apart, hope that helps.
