the learning curve for a compound is pretty fast. really fast. you midwest guys get all those short shots from treestands and ground blinds. 20 yards is the norm from what i heard. 20 yards is low hanging fruit. i think my first ever bow shot at 20 yards was in the bulls.
with the modern mechanical broadheads on the market, even "tuning" the bow is not a huge endeavor. i vote you go with a bow, but i'm biased.
the simple act of lifting a bow and drawing it back within earshot, eyeshot, nose-shot of a whitetail will get your adrenalin rushing. it's when most of us get busted. good times!!
