I thought about that approach also, because if I slapped the phone out of their hand, then it might devolve into them deciding to fight to retrieve their precious phone and that could slow things down, too.
I think a better idea might be to somewhat combine the two ideas... take the phone away from them and shove them
toward the nearest exit, telling them
what you said and that they'll get it back
after class... aka, after everyone is off the plane.
