When Brryan Jackson's father injected his son's infant body with a syringe full of HIV-infected blood, he hoped he'd never see him grow up. Nobody ever imagined that 24 years later, he'd be facing his strapping young son in court to hear about the devastating impact of his crime.

It's lunchtime at the Missouri Department of Corrections. A nervous Brryan Jackson is guided away from the prison waiting room with its entrance buzzers and clanking doors into the quietness of a sparse white-walled courtroom.

At the other end of the room a man wearing a white prisoner's uniform is waiting for him. Although they haven't met since he was a baby, this man, Bryan Stewart, is his father.

Jackson is here to read a statement he's hoping will ensure his father remains behind bars for as long as possible. It's a statement very few believed he'd get the chance to read, when, in 1992, he was diagnosed with "full-blown Aids" and sent home to die.

Washington mother accused of giving children heroin

A young couple in the US state of Washington are accused of injecting three young children with heroin to "make them go to sleep".

Police say Ashlee Hutt and Mac Leroy McIver were found living with three children, aged six, four and two, among rat droppings, drug needles and heroin.

Ms Hutt appeared in court on Monday and faces child endangerment charges. Mr McIver faces similar charges.

The three children were removed from the home last November.

The couple deny the charges against them.

Pierce County Sheriff's Department spokesman Ed Troyer told The Washington Post: "The kids lived in deplorable conditions. It wasn't a good living situation even without the issue of heroin."

According to court documents, the six-year-old told investigators the couple gave him "feel good medicine" which he described "as white powder which was mixed with water" and injected with needles.

He said after they were injected the three children would go to sleep.

Two of the children tested positive for the drug, and puncture marks and bruising, consistent with needle injections were also found on the children's bodies, according to reports.

Both Ms Hutt and Mr McIver have pleaded not guilty to the charges, though they both admitted to being heroin users.

Rhonda Pasek, 50, and James Acord, 47, were charged with endangering children after they became unconscious during a traffic stop in East Liverpool.

The couple were detained on Wednesday afternoon after a policeman spotted their Ford Explorer being driven erratically.

Officer Kevin Thompson followed the vehicle as it weaved along the road before it braked suddenly behind a school bus that was dropping off children.

He said he found Acord with "pin point pupils", his "head bobbing back and forth his speech was almost unintelligible".

Paramedics were called to administer anti-overdose medication Narcan after the couple fell unconscious.

I know this is just a drop in the bucket, and probably not even the worst of the worst, but man....
