My father-in-law worked for the local power company. He was a senior employee and had been working there over 30 years. He got a call on a weekend when a manufacturing plant in the Enid area had lost one leg of the three phase. He asked if I wanted to go along to watch and I did. They used a LOT of electricity at the plant. They had three separate substations and each one was a leg of the three phase. They each had a small building inside the substation fence. My FIL met another long term employee there. The guys had no chit chat whatsoever. It was like a NASA operation, no unnecessary chatter.
My FIL said the silliest thing ever to ever me, "don't touch anything." Yea, like duh! Anyway they would go into the building and call headquarters and tell them we are about to do this, and hear permission granted. It was strange to see two guys 100% focused on the job at hand and then stop, make a phone call to headquarters then they did the next step. Withing 30 minutes they replaced a circuit breaker that took a gizmo like a engine hoist to move it, and a fuse that was the size of my leg. They finished up, the power was back on. They locked the gate and each noted the time the job was complete on their own form and we left. That substation hummed with the power going to it. I guess it takes a lot of juice to make ammonia and nitrogen fertilizer.
