That has to be very annoying.
Back in the days when I lived in Alabama and worked as a new photographer we would get calls from AP, UPI, Time Magazine, Newsweek and several newspapers to go photograph a local news story. I sometimes took two cameras and would shoot one camera for one client and another for a different client even though it was the same event.
The National Enquirer called us up and the reporter was perfect for the job as a reporter for the Enquirer. He told me on the phone that Governor George Wallace had a murder contract out on him (the reporter) so he could not meet with me he had to do everything by phone and he could not tell me his location. We called the Enquirer to make sure that reporter was really working there.
Anyway, that goofy reporter was convinced that Wallace's wife was going to leave the governor's mansion the day before she had announced in her press conference. They paid us our day rate for me to sit at the mansion and play cards with the state troopers that are the guards. I sat around and listened to their stories and we had a fun day. Of course the next day a ton of other reporters and photographers showed up on the schedule she had announced and she got in the back of a limo and drove away. I never did buy a copy of the Enquirer to see if they used my photos.
At that age it was great to be paid for a day of goofing off.
