There is an interesting Freakonomics podcast about medical care and cardiologists and conventions. Did you know that when cardiologist conventions are held and non-cardiologist specialists treat heart attack patients that their survival chances are actually HIGHER than if they had been treated by a cardiologist? Reasoning is cardiologists are thought to take riskier/higher tech/more invasive surgery/treatments which result in higher fatality rates.
