Dyeing Leather

So I've got this stupid expensive really nice 3 piece leather couch.

The set is in an East exposure room with pretty much a wall of floor to ceiling windows 30 ft high.

Needless to say it faded the couches.

We installed screens a few years back when we first noticed the damage but the appearance of them still bugs me.

Had a guy in a while back to give me an estimate on fixing them and for what he wanted I could have just bought a new set.

Got the expected "well this set has a rare mufongo infused leather that is cured using the urine of 100 virgins in an underground salt mine"

I also have 4 cats with all their claws who tend to leave evidence of their presence which does not bug me terribly since the style of the couch is distressed to begin with.

So brain trust.

What do I have to lose by getting some dye and having at it?

Could I screw this up?

Looking to get back to the medium / dark mocha.
