Shipping is never free. Whether you pay for it directly, or it's built into the price, nobody does it for "nothing". Shipping costs also have nothing to do with the price of an item. It's all down to size and weight of the package. Most people try to order things so they can ship multiple items together. If I were needing a $2 part, I might choose to buy it locally and pay no shipping.
Where you shop is up to you. Wayne has talked about shipping many times before and he's even changed the way things are done, in an attempt to fix some of these perceived issues. It's a complex issue. I don't mind paying for shipping. It is what it is. I'm not a huge fan of the Amazon model of selling.
