the online place may get the shoes cheap enough that they can eat over night shipping. zappos and dillards were the 2 stores.

I see some of the prices pelican charges for parts, they have room for free shipping on some things,
take CV joint bolts. I bought a bag of 50 from Fastenal for about the same price of what I would have paid for enough just to do the car. I think it was 24??
I needed a few intake gaskets. shipping was more than the gaskets.

this is a GREAT site, wayne has a captive customer pool here. it would be nice to get some breaks on the shipping, especially when you need just one thing.
Whether or not shipping prices are "built into the cost of the part" or deducted from the gross margin, or whatever... it's just an accounting function. Some stores sell some parts for less money than others.

I'm a big fan of supporting local businesses. I would have probably ordered the shoes from the local store. Most of them will work with you on stuff like that.

The CV bolts from Fastenal may be completely different than the bolts sourced through Porsche/Wayne. Fastenal used to have a good name, I have no idea what they sell now. My son uses some of their current products in the business he works for and hates them. With critical fasteners, I'm pretty picky about where they come from, given that there are now so many out there that are sourced from China and made from recycled soup spoons. Caveat emptor, as they say.

Keep in mind on shipping the gaskets, you have the shipping cost, the packaging material costs, the labor cost to pick the part, pack and label it, etc. On little stuff, Wayne may not make anything. That's why you often see $1 as a minumum price on small fasteners. At some point, it costs more to sell one or two of something than you make from selling them.
