The new axles should come with zirk grease fittings for the bearings at least.
There are also hub meters and other slick heat/tire monitoring technology out there (for tractor/trailers but maybe smaller trailers also).
As example: Wheel Monitor Inc. Innovators in Truck/Trailer Intelligence Technology
An irfrared thermometer on the hubs and checking the air should suffice in the meantime.
