Backdated Heat Tech Article

I've waded through dozens of backdated heat threads, but still haven't found one that explains it all for an 83SC. Lots of great info, no doubt, but I'll be using this thread to sort out my own backdate and hopefully it can evolve into something useful like the other threads. I'll be using pics from my own car, and a few from other threads (thanks Pelicans!)

So as I understand it, backdating the heat in an 83SC involves removing the blower motor and ducting. These parts:

I won't go into specific of removal unless there is something unique. Loosening hose clamps and nuts are self-explanatory.

Here's how the left side looks after removing the large ribbed duct between the blower and left heat duct:

Next up I removed the short hose from the metal Y of the blower, then removed it where it attaches to the rear engine tin, here:

Then I removed the longer hose from the right side of the blower's Y. This hose is one long piece that goes from the blower Y all the way to the heat exhanger below the engine. To remove the other end of the hose from the heat exchanger I first had to remove my A/C compressor and the bracket that mounts it to the engine. You can see the hose here, how it routes under the bracket and down through the engine tin (hidden by the engine mount chassis attachment in this pic):

Below is my engine with the following items removed:
-blower motor (metal "Y" duct came off as part of the blower)
-the large, ribbed plastic duct that goes between the metal Y of the blower and the left heat duct (the part that attaches to the fiberglass fan shroud to the left of the fan)
- the left flex hose coming off the left metal Y
- the longer, right flex hose coming of the right Y and routing directly through the right tin to the heat exchanger underneath the car.

The two highlighted parts are:
-the left heat duct (smaller part)
-the rear engine tin (the larger part)
