I haven't myself, but I've had a couple of friends who have. One was a college student, just taking time off early in life while she had few obligations. She loved it, developed a taste for international travel, and is now pursuing a career with the State Department. Another friend started somewhat later in life, married some foreign woman, and has settled down overseas as an expat. So I guess he liked the life so much he just stuck with it.
