I had my colonoscopy in mid August. I want to thank those folks that have gone before me, because it was here I read about tapering your eating prior to starting the purge. I got the Gatorade and mirolax mix. It was not bad at all.
This was my first colonoscopy and the doctor and I were expecting to find nothing. I had just turned 51. Unfortunately, a nearly 2 inch tumor was found. The biopsy came back as pre-cancerous (high-grade displaysa). I was immediately referred to a surgical oncologist. I went in for surgery on September 19th. Surgery went well, but the next week in the hospital was miserable. I'd have a colonoscopy a month for a year, before I'd spend another week at the hospital. Between, the noise, the interruptions, and the lack of sleep I'd was getting sicker the longer I stayed. Finally got home and started feeling better right away. After the week in the hospital, I was at home for two weeks. I returned to my desk job at about 80% and it took a couple more weeks before I was 100%.
I ended up loosing about 12 inches of my large intestines, from the end of the small intestines to part way across the transverse large intestines. This was done laparoscopically, and I have one 3 inch scar and three smaller ones.
The pathology report came back and I was clear of cancer. I am a very fortunate person. Many prayers were answered and I am thankful for all of them.
I also want to thank the folks that have posted here. Their experiences helped me get through my colonoscopy and the second prep I went through for the surgery.
I have made a pretty complete recovery. I'll never be constipated again, I know that.
Thanks Pelicans.
