Helmets are really part of the problem. I remember the first time I wore an "air helmet" my senior year in HS. Wow. I started sticking my head in places I would not have before with the suspension helmet because it didn't hurt with the new helmet. A lot of "technique" went out of tackling and being tackled for me.
I support football at all levels. It is personal choice and I support the sport wholeheartedly.
Just be smart and be absolutely sure your kid really wants to play.
