If it is a venting issue wrt water ingress, it sounds like something that could be modded/rerouted for submersion boat launches. Most boat launches don't require the tow vehicle to go in the water, though. Just the trailer, usually.

IIRC it was $100 every 15,000 miles (normal driving conditions), or 7500 miles under extreme conditions or where the electronic 4 wheel drive is often used.
It was special oil that was only available from honda at that time.
Looks like it's available other places now, amazon has it at $12 per quart.
