There were no lifeguard shacks back in the day. The only visitors from Torrance were surfers and the cops somtimes at late night beach parties.
Distances seemed smaller but fairly steep hills... Used to cover a lot of territory on the StingRay bike! So much youthful energy.

There were still three sections of the pier at Haggerty's when I first surfed there, the swim club pool was sea water, and at high tide, there was no beach between the middle and right side lifeguard towers in your picture. Where the houses are atop the bluff, we used to dig up arrowheads and bone fragments from the pre-historic Indian sites that were there. Great place to have a childhood.
