Found training my dogs to used the bathroom on command very very helpful. Before I have to leave my dog for any length of time, or before I take her with me, just take her out and tell her to "do her stuff." She goes, priase her and she is good to go. Also take her out right after she eats and tell her to "do number 6."
Has gotten to when I ask her if she wants to go for a ride she barks and runs to the back door so she can go do her stuff before we leave.
It's nice not having to worry about that when we go out an about or when I leave her.
Remember going to the Golden Retriever Club's Christmas party one year. Most of them brought their dogs. Every so often they would go out and take their dogs for a small walk to see if they had to go to the bathroom. Man, what a hassle. Just told mine to do her stuff before I left the house and didn't have to worry about her. She was good for the evening.
I'm sitting at my computer and she is curled up right behind me. But she doesn't snore. When I lean back and turn my swivel office chair to go do anything else she is usually up and right beside me before I can get out of the chair.
