Well, it has all those extra cylinders the 944 does not have so it need twice as many.
Long long ago I remember my buddies Ferrari Daytona engine. It was a 12 cylinder engine of course but it had two of everything. Two distributors with points in each, two oil filters, two coils, two plugs per cylinder and a lot of plug wires and lots of carburetors. Way back in the 70s his tune ups were like $800 bucks. With 24 platinum plugs and the time to swap them all was a lot of the cost.
On the back stretch of Road Atlanta before they put in the kink it that it has now he rolled around the curve and accelerated through the gears but double clutched on every shift and hit 140 and said that is fast enough and coasted the rest of the straight. One week later the Porsche club did the track. I screamed around the corner in my 100 HP 4 cylinder 914 as fast as I could and ran through the gears got int 5th and got to 115 and ran out of room
I figure that extra 8 cylinders he had really did make a difference.
The Ferrari club would rent the track and hire the Porsche club to run the track day for them. With the money we made we would rent the track one week later and do it for ourselves.
