I was just talking to a really good shop today. The magic number is now around $20,000. The paint alone is over $3,500.
OP - If you're already having doubts about this shop don't do it. You shouldn't have to look over their shoulder. And, they absolutely do not want you suggesting different ideas as to how they might do a better job.
Find a shop you really really trust. Then let them do their job.
The only thing you have to do is write the big check when it's done.
