Wow! Nice work! Thank you for the photos.

Over the past few days I have disassembled the torque tube and ordered new bearings. I was kind of surprised how relatively easy it was to remove the TT. I thought that the rear suspension would be tougher to drop. It was not bad at all.

I used Clarks Garage's instructions on pulling the bearings out. Clarks is right; it does take forever to pull the bearings out without an impact gun.

The instructions say that the early cars have riveted bearing retainers. Mine is from an '87 and it has the riveted retainers. In any case, it looks like it will not be that difficult to put it back together. I was surprised to find that the bearings seemed okay. I don't know what a bad TT bearing sounds like. I guess I did not have a bad bearing. However, it would be nice to not have to disassemble the car once its on the road, so it's a good preventive repair.
